The Look of a Witch

What does a witch look like? Black pointy hats, or the ever iconic Goth aesthetic are often the go to’s for what a witch looks like. Witches have always permeated pop culture with dark looks that would convince any budding pagan to believe there was a dress code. As fun as it would be to be able to walk down the street in a globally recognized uniform so we could easily spot each other for connection, resources, and assistance, there’s many reasons it’s not ideal. As much as I enjoy the Goth aesthetic and oftentimes they do use pagan imagery, Goth is not a guaranteed witch. Many witches have their own aesthetic, their own personal style that is for them by them. Now, don’t get me wrong, if I had to pick an identifiable look, I do lean heavy on cottage core, or even dark academia, but on the daily? I rock graphic tee shirts and a variety of denim because that's my personal style, and punk never dies, it just grows up. It doesn’t make me less of a witch, in fact my appearance doesn’t impact me as a witch in the slightest. Being a witch is a choice, it’s a lifestyle, it’s even a mindset. I’m a witch when I’m acting like I’m dying from the common cold, or when I’m dressed to the 9’s for a friend’s wedding. What makes me a witch is intentionally drinking peppermint rose tea every morning, and chamomile lavender tea before bed or when I hide rocks for my niece to find to keep her safe, happy, and healthy. You can be a witch when you take a hike to clear your head or even when you are running errands. There’s 1001 different ways to be a witch and only a handful are related to your wardrobe choices (I’ll talk more about that later). Let me know when you feel most witchy, even if it’s your best witchy. As long as you remember, clothes don’t make the witch, intention does.
