Fire is the element of passion and drive. It's alluring and seductive. Dangerous and protective. It keeps you warm just as much as it keeps you on your toes. Fire is a unique element in how it relates to the other 3 core elements. It depends on earth and air for fuel and it's extinguished by water. In my personal practice, I enjoy working with fire during the summer months. Summer is strongly associated with fire and it’s the peak time to spend your days in the sun taking in all that solar-fire energy. Now, of course you can work with fire any time you’d like, but with my preferences, summer is the best time for me to practice with fire and work with it as an element all its own. With perfect conditions, I absolutely love meditating with fire with a bonfire. Sitting under the stars lost in my thoughts always produces the absolute best results for me. You might be asking yourself, why would you work with fire? Well for many reasons. In my case it brings some balance to my very Earth-dominant self. It also helps me connect to some of my better creative ventures, this blog for example. I understand that not everyone has the ability to sit around a bonfire for any number of reasons, but a simple household candle or even a photo of a gorgeous flame can achieve the same results as a big old fashioned bonfire. Why would you want to work and meditate on fire? Many reasons, maybe you’re trying to hammer out your love life, or you need to find your passion. It can help you find control if you’re feeling particularly watery or you need to incite change when you’re a bit too deep in your earth-y ways. I always find fire the most comforting when I’m feeling a bit lost and in need of direction. Below you’ll find a few things I associate with fire and my favorite fire meditation to go along with it. Fire Associations: Colors: Red, orange, and yellow Rocks/crystals: lava rocks, citrine, ruby, and I like to use any red, orange, or yellow rock Plants/herbs: Sunflowers, red roses, cloves, this list can go on, but these are the first I think of Animals: salamanders, snakes, and tigers Season: Summer Time of day: Most people would say noon, when the sun is high in the sky. I deem anytime the sun is up because so help me if I’m awake before noon, earth runs DEEP in my spirit. Fire Meditation: You’ll need: a flame of some variety, or a picture of one DISCLAIMER: For my fellow neurodivergents, sitting still quietly does not work for everyone, it may work better for you to focus on fire while compiling a bomb fire playlist and taking a hike while you do the following meditation. Don’t let anyone trick you into sitting still! It’s just plain rude. First: Focus on your core or heart, I usually focus on my heart beat over my breath. I focus on my heart until I find my rhythm, or when I feel at ease with my body, or in sync. Second: Imagine your favorite place to wander. I like to imagine a path lined with sunflowers and red roses. I follow this path all the way down to a beautiful fire pit with a large fire blazing. Next: Focus on fire. How does it feel, how do you connect with it, what comes to mind when you think about fire. Enjoy your time here. Let fire show you what it needs to show you, what do you need from fire right now. It’s okay to let your mind wander at this moment. Finally: Come back down, I usually find myself coming out of it toward the end of my playlist, but it helps to walk yourself back down a blissfully sweet trail back into yourself.
